Investing in Chamber Leadership One of the greatest investments a Chamber can make is investing in its own leadership. ๐๐ค Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Western Association of Chamber Executives (WACE) Academy in San Francisco as I continue working toward my Chamber Executive Certification, which I am on track to complete this February. ๐ Over several days of training, we explored topics including strategic planning, ethics, governance, economic development, workforce, business retention, and how Chambers can play a more meaningful role in strengthening their local economies. One message was clear throughout every session: Successful Chambers don’t wait for opportunities to come to them. They build strong partnerships, listen to their business community, use data to guide decisions, and help create the conditions where businesses can thrive. ๐ผ๐ I came home with pages of ideas, practical tools, and new relationships with Chamber professionals from across the western United States. Many of those ideas align with initiatives already underway here in Oregon’s Bay Area, including our Business Readiness efforts, workforce partnerships, advocacy work, and strategic planning for the future. Professional development like this isn’t just about earning a certification. It’s about bringing home new ideas, new perspectives, and […]

Leadership Begins with Stepping Forward Leadership begins with people willing to step forward and make a difference. ๐๐ค If youโve ever considered becoming more involved in our community, this Friday is the final day to apply for the 36th Class of Leadership Coos! For more than three decades, Leadership Coos has helped develop informed and connected leaders by introducing participants to the people, industries, and organizations that shape Oregonโs Bay Area. ๐ข๐ฒ Whether youโre looking to grow professionally, expand your network, or simply learn more about the place we call home, Leadership Coos is an investment that pays dividends for years to come. At the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, we often describe our role through the Three Cโs: Champion, Convener, and Catalyst. We champion businesses by advocating for a healthy business climate. We convene leaders, organizations, and community partners to tackle challenges together. And we act as a catalyst, helping turn good ideas into meaningful action. ๐ก๐ One exciting example is our new Business Readiness Initiative, where the Chamber is bringing together economic development partners to coordinate resources and better support businesses before challenges become crises. By working together, we can connect businesses with the right people, the right […]
